Why we haven't yet evolved to a one party system with only the Liberal Party of Canada, without need for elections is beyond me.

Ahh, but we have, have we not? Even a one-party system feels the need to anoint itself by having an election. A Russian friend of mine described his first ever vote in the then Soviet Union. He asked the "poll clerk" how many of the candidates he should choose. She replied, "All of them! They were selected by your betters - who are you to think you know better."

I realize I should meekly trot off tomorrow and carve an X for my local Liberal candidate, who was duly selected by the real electors - the local Liberal constituency association. I remain just too much of a renegade to do that, however. I think I will mark a big black X for my local Alliance candidate.

Yes, yes, I think I shall. Imagine the late night worry sessions conducted by the Canadian Brain Trust, trying to fathom why this lost soul cast such an errant ballot, despite their best efforts to educate me.

Go Liberals Go! (Please hurry. I might even attend their bon voyage party.)

Regards,

WillP
