you might be surprized to learn that
his 1980 budget was virtually identical to Reagan's. A
close friend of mine made it the subject of a
thesis.

Was Congress controlled by the Dems back then... which in effect kept putting all this spend, spend, spend policies ?

We look back at Presidents Reagan and Carter as being
political extremes. In reality there were only subtle
differences (aside from the 'vision' thing and basic
leadership issues).

see above (about congress)... same question.

As for the "image" thing which is what concerns me with the current fandango... what is happening is that the WRONG signal is being sent to who-knows-what radical group out there... like the Ayahtola followers had the balls to take over a US Embassy....

THAT would NOT have taken place say... under Reagan, or someone who is a true leader...

In addition... it is demonstrating to the world how deeply divided the USA really is about many issues to the point that we can not decide on a fairly basic but important point. i.e. Who is chief.

Gore ~vs~ Bush scary choice (at least it was for me), however, what has made me go back in "sleep mode" -g- is the fact that Congress is divided and at this point I really do not care who is the head Gonzo.
