I have no idea what you're talking about. I really must set the record straight. Not one poll predicted a Gore popular vote victory. Not one. When I responded directly to you in Sept. or Oct., pointing out what I considered to be shortcomings in P of A's sampling methodology, you brushed me off and pooh-poohed my concerns. Instead, you pointed to P of A's record in '96. To say that "it was widely assumed ... that Gore would ride a strong economy into the White House" is, in your term, opposite of the truth. Re: the congressional races: Only a small percentage of people thought that the Dems might be able up their total in the Senate to 50. The postings on this board for the 30 days prior to Nov. 7 do not support your statements as outlined in #88258. Perhaps you personally believed some of this would come about, but the vast majority on this board predicted a clear-cut Bush win on Nov. 7, even though some did speculate that the race would tighten up the last week.
