A report was put together about 15 years ago that outlined the problems with the votematic system. Some of the problems included hanging chads and dimpled chads. From what I've seen a person puts a card into the "machine". The holes on the machine line up with holes next to candidate names. A person takes a stylus and punches a perforated disc (Chad) out of the ballot. Or, at least, it is how it is supposed to work.
