re: "Flat" (bookings) is expressed and perceived negatively.

The historical pattern in bookings is very clear: bookings are never flat, not for more than a few months. Bookings are always either increasing at a rapid pace, or decreasing rapidly. So, when bookings have been rapidly going up, and they start going flat, the next step is either a resumption of the rapid increases, or a sharp downturn. Which one is it? That's the crucial question.

There is much wishful thinking, about how bookings are going to stabilize now, without the wild swings. There is zero historical evidence to think this might happen. Of course, maybe everythings's different now. And maybe Ebay stock is worth 1000 times 2009 earnings. (this could actually be true, since Ebay earnings will be zero).
