I am pretty confident that one could make an objective machine that can read dimpled or hanging chads (would take two or three days to build). And I am pretty confident that if you did that Gore would come out ahead. However, I suspect he would win by less than 1000 votes. And 1000 votes is too small of a difference if one is arguing for any kind of significant difference in the overall vote in Florida.

The margin of difference is around 1 vote in 10,000 and the margin of error for the voting system is certainly no better than 1 in 1000. You might as well flip a coin. And that is essentially what has happened in Florida.
