The LX chipset was not available when the PII launched. The early boards were based on the 440FX "Natoma", which most PPro boards used also. The board Tom used in his April '97 review was an Aopen AX6F, which was an FX board see tomshardware.com, also see anandtech.com for details from another local favorite. The FX chipset supported EDO/FPM memory, and didn't support SDRAM.

The spec site lists hardware availability for the LX boards as August, '97; I assume that's when the LX launched, since the processors were available in May.
