Geez,Andrew Card(named Chief of staff) is another choice of George Bush,Sr.......Card, 51, currently the Distinguished Fellow for Policy and Politics with the United States
Chamber of Commerce, was president and chief executive officer of the American Automobile
Manufacturers Association from 1993 until January of this year. In 1998, he also served as
president of Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles, the industry’s
international trade association, based in Paris. Card’s extensive background in government and
politics included directing the Presidential Transition Office for U.S. President George Bush and
serving in the Bush Administration as the nation’s eleventh secretary of transportation, and as
deputy White House chief of staff and assistant to the president.

As transportation secretary, Card had responsibility for a number of federal agencies, among
them the Federal Highway Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
and the Federal Transit Administration. He also was appointed by President Bush to
coordinate disaster relief efforts in Florida and Louisiana after Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
While White House deputy chief of staff, Card managed White House day-to-day operations
and participated in the full range of economic, foreign, and domestic policy development.

Card also held positions with U.S. President Ronald Reagan, including deputy assistant to the
president, and special assistant to the president in the White House Office of Intergovernmental
Affairs. In 1988, he was a consultant to George Bush for President and to the Republican
National Committee.

From 1975 through 1983, Card served four two-year terms in the Massachusetts House of
Representatives, including three terms as assistant Republican whip. In 1982, he was named
Legislator of the Year by the National Republican Legislators’ Association, and he earned the
Distinguished Legislator Award that same year from the Massachusetts Municipal Association.

Following his graduation from the University of South Carolina in 1971 with a bachelor’s
degree in engineering, Card worked as a structural design engineer in the Boston area. His
educational experience also includes the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard
University, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. His present and past affiliations and
board memberships include a variety of educational and non-profit institutions, and he is the
recipient of numerous educational honors and awards.

Card and his family live in Arlington, Virginia.
