Peter,

"and the righteous Christianity"..

Thanksgiving Day - For me it is definitely a day I give special thanks to God. I am the lowest of creatures and He saved me. I am a child of His and yes I thank and praise Him everyday, but with the loudest of voices and the most open of hearts on Thanksgiving Day.

Peter, you have a tender heart in so many ways... why are you so intolerant of God and Christians ...

David

we should, in the interest of Truth, also celebrate that we won the land fair and square through genocide and war.

What, "Happy Genocide Day"? Doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Seriously, though, most Christians already have a season for reflection and atonement and that kind of thing. It's called Lent. Starts in about three months, give or take a couple weeks. Watch for it.

Most folks want the Germans and Japanese to bear a sense of responsibility and humility for their nations' crimes in WW2

Is that so? Maybe it's just me, but I can't even remember the last time, if ever in my lifetime, when I felt that the majority of Americans harbored any resentment towards current-day Germans and Japanese over what happened 55-60 years ago. There was a little trepidation when the Germanys reunited 10 years ago but when the deed was done and Hitler didn't rise from the dead the whole matter got dropped awfully quickly. As for Japan, they've practically become trendy nowadays between Nintendo and Pokemon and everything else.

I mean, there are of course plenty of relatives of concentration camp victims and they are certainly entitled to continue to feel wronged, but on the whole relations between the US and the former Axis powers could hardly be better. Where are you, that you see widespread resentment today over the events of WW2?

You don't hear on Thanksgiving, "We are thankful that we had gunpowder

Neither do you hear, "We are thankful that we have grown to temper our brutal instincts and have become the most multicultural and democratic nation on the face of the earth".

There are always things that we can be ashamed of, but there are just as many to be proud of.

Were the US more brutal than it's competitors, I dare say we wouldn't continue to experience the degree of immigration we have.

Think of our parents giving thanks for their children (us), despite the cruelty we may have displayed in our youth, oftentimes bordering on incorrigible.

Again, whatever cruelty Americans displayed during the early years of this country, it was hardly out of the norm for that period.

We have only to look at the history of the French and British empires for comparison.

Regards,

Ron

peter, the bleeding heart liberal in you makes me wanna cry

Im wondering your thoughts on how the youth in our country so brazenly maim and kill on a regular basis lower forms of life. And that an entire industry has developed because of it (Lawnboy, Toro, John Deer).
