I don't think that "looking presidential" has much to do with GWB's success in this election process. Here's what the whole enchilada boils down to imo:

1) Dems got selective counties recounted based on provision in FL laws that allow for this if requested within 72 hours. Nothing wrong with this imo, because the state count was SO close.

2) Dems could not get recounts done within 7 days (another FL state law), and have done everything possible to have this law discounted (including getting FL Supreme Court to extend the deadline by 12 days).

3) With the assist from the FL S.C. they still could not count enough votes by the deadline.

4) Now contesting a federal election for 1st time in history. Basically because they don't want to live by the law in item no. 2.

5) The U.S. Supreme Court will overturn the FL S.C. because THEY CHANGED THE RULES after the election.

6) Dems are going to look bad (particularly Gore) when the U.S. Supreme Court explains to the U.S. that you can't pick and choose which laws you want to use to justify your position.

My question to you (or anyone who cares to answer) is:

How can you justify using one Florida law (right to recount in up to 4 counties within 72 hours) and not another (recount must be done within a week)? I realize that completing the recount in 1 week is a tough chore, but it is a BIG advantage to be able to cherry pick where you want the recounts. Please justify why you (and Gore) think one of the laws is fine, but the other is no good.
