isopatch, I'm not proud of being "on target"- But dang someone has to stand and say that the emperor is wearing no clothes. The people of this great country should not be sacrificed at the altar of any individual's political ambition- That's ancient Roman stuff- not for 21st Century America. IMO the first defectors will be the southern Democrats and then possibly Hispanic Democrats- and for a reason. Conservative Southern Democrats and Moderate Northern Republicans are sitting in the "catbird's seat" in the next Congress. Hispanic Democrats may respond to Bush's popularity in Latin America.

Assuming party line voting these two groups- if they break rank with their regular party affiliations- can make a lot of very good deals for their constituents back home. Look for a Zell Miller of Georgia in the Seante, and A Sununu or Bass in the Congress (New Hampshire) to be typical "swing voters' and coalition makers.....

So I see the next Congress and President-Elect Bush negotiating legislative packages 1950's and 1960's style, before single issue interest groups arose and hardened political discourse in Washington, D.C.

So I see a middle-of-the-road- and very effective Congress- Good for everybody.
