I do not listen to Rush, but your characterization of Dittoheads is wildly off- base:

Profile Of Rush Limbaugh Listeners

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Washington Post
Audience Participation In Radio Land
Limbaugh Listeners More Likely to Vote

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Mario A. Brossard
Washington Post Staff Writer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They are better educated and much more affluent than most Americans. They are much more knowledgeable than most about what goes on inside the Beltway and, although they are among the least trusting of federal government, they are also among the most politically engaged voters.

Dittoheads.

Regular listeners of the Rush Limbaugh radio talk show, according to a new national survey conducted by The Washington Post, the Kaiser Family Foundation and Harvard University, also turn out at the ballot box with more consistency than most other voters.

During the last two years, Rush Limbaugh, the 44-year-old conservative talk radio host, has been one of the loudest voices cheerleading the transformation of America's political landscape. But if Limbaugh has been the mouth of the Republican revolution, the 20 million people who regularly tune in to his shows have been its loyal foot soldiers.

More self-identified Limbaugh regulars have college diplomas than the population as a whole, and the survey shows that while 9 percent of all American households take in $75,000 a year or more, 19 percent of the dittoheads make that much.

Limbaugh and his affectionately called "dittoheads" marched onto the political scene in 1988. More recently, this group of mostly white, mostly male conservatives has been credited by pundits as being a core group of voters who helped with the 104th Congress of Rep. Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and the Republican Party in 1994. With voter registration topping 80 percent, more than half of the dittoheads say they are very interested in politics, compared to only a quarter of non-dittoheads.

Political participation notwithstanding, the federal government has become their prime target. Indeed, Limbaugh's regular listeners are among the most likely Americans to view the federal government as a "major threat" to their personal rights, freedoms and financial well-being. More than eight in 10 say they trust the federal government to do the right thing only "some" or "none" of the time, and a third say they have absolutely no confidence that the federal government can solve the problems it sets out to tackle.

"I believe that [the federal government] is far too large, far too bloated, and far too intrusive into people's lives," said Eloise Deihl from Dilworth, Minn., an "over 50" secretary at an insurance firm.

The press does not rate very highly among this group either, with almost six dittoheads in 10 saying they have very little confidence in the news media. "The reason I listen to Rush is because he represents how I feel," said Bob Aillery, 39, of Stamford, Conn. "I'm always so frustrated at most media in general because it does not represent how I feel, and 99 percent of what he says I agree with."

But they have hope for the Republican Congress. Four dittoheads in 10 have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the legislative branch, compared to one in 10 others.

"I trust them simply because it's not Congress as usual," Aillery said. "Up until the last election I didn't trust Congress worth two bits."

The mistrust most Limbaugh loyalists have for the federal government flows primarily from their perception of the government in Washington as inefficient, wasteful and too eager to spend too much on the wrong things. They believe that federal spending on the environment, Medicare and particularly public assistance to the poor should be cut.

"Look at welfare, it's horribly abused," continued Aillery, who runs his own engineering and contracting firm. "It's worse than the Soviet Union, because at least in the Soviet Union they expected them to work."

More than half of Limbaugh's regular listeners are white men between the ages of 30 and 49. More than 40 percent of female dittoheads are 60 years or older.

Limbaugh junkies tend more than other Americans to say they have a high degree of trust in other people, but perhaps none so much as the talk show host.

"I am a huge, huge admirer of his," declares Deihl. "You don't just build up a network like he has unless you're doing something right."

Do you listen to Rush Limbaugh more than 2 times a week?
No. I never listen to him.

Do you frequently find your TV on fox news?
Hmm. It is one of 4 news channels I watch.

Do you have the NewsMax web site listed in your Favorites?
No. I do not.

Do you give credit for our economy to the GOP Congress at the expense of the Clointon administration?
Actually I Credit the AMERICAN PEOPLE and Alan Greenspan first, before congress and the "Clointon(?)" administration.

Did you cringe when you heard that Hilary would be the new Senator from New York?
Hmm. No. I think I laughed.

Do you frequently receive GOP political propaganda though e-mail forwarding?
Absolutely not. And it better not start. I have little stickers with pictures of cartoon computers on the side of my monitor. They represent the spammers I have found and destroyed. Spammers get ONE 'unsubscribe' attempt (if I actually think they are for real in the first place).

Do you believe Nixon was framed?
No.

Do you think Katherine "John Cleese in drag" Harris is a hero?
Not really... But I find your description of her offensive. (I noticed when seeing her speak last night that she had toned down the makeup.)

Do you believe that Dubya actually won Florida?
Four times, yes.

Moderates would never support the gestapo tactics of Bush.

Ge·sta·po (g-stäp, -shtä-)
n. 1.The German internal security police as organized under the Nazi regime, known for its terrorist methods directed against those suspected of treason or questionable loyalty.

Didn't the gestapo force people to answer lists of ridiculous and prejudiced questions to determine their loyalty or affiliation?

Heal thyself, physician.

<Font color=red>EVERY VOTE MUST COUNT!

lawdog, you are the epitome of Gore's entire agenda. You're the Al Gore of Silicon Investor. Al's lust for the White House has proven to be irrational. Calling this turn of events "the gestapo tactics of Bush" fully illustrates the depth of your mental instability.

Permit me, if I may, to respond to your "quiz". Once you've digested it, perhaps you will return to the land of the ordinary people and come back from whatever alternate universe you've decided to occupy. I doubt it, but I have hope. I think I may speak for more than myself.

Do you listen to Rush Limbaugh more than 2 times a week?

No, I listened to him for a while about 8 years ago. I think he's got the same problem that you have, only not as bad. He's got to be right. The difference is that he made sense when I listened 8 years ago, and you sound like more like a mental patient that he did.

Do you frequently find your TV on fox news?

I don't watch TV at all under normal circumstances. Mostly I've been watching MSNBC. But I find your question interesting. It implies that Fox (which is owned by a certified lunatic IMHO) is somehow biased towards Bush. That may be, I don't know. What I do know is that MSNBC has called this "The Battle For The White House" since it started, and that pissed me off immediately. I also saw Alan Dershowitz call Bush's victory last night a "coup d'etat". This slimeball is a professor at Harvard! I wish I were in his class. I'd interrupt him.

Do you have the NewsMax web site listed in your Favorites?

Never heard of it before it came up on this thread. But it brings up the same point. It also illustrates what I suspect is your underlying premise: I somehow am too stupid to figure out what is going on, and have to look at the television or the Internet to get someone to tell me what to think. This is YOUR method of education, not mine.

Do you give credit for our economy to the GOP Congress at the expense of the Clointon administration?

I'll refrain from saying anything about your spelling, and I'll refrain from two obvious jokes about it. This question is the same as asking, "Did you stop kicking your dog"? It's a trick question, which has no answer. If you were to ask me who I credit for our current economy, I'd have to say I credit the people that created it. That would be the people in the United States that made, and are making some contribution to it. Business owners, computer programmers, farmers, teachers, priests, and all the rest. The people that DID NOT contribute to our economy are the people that are taking out more than they are putting in. I believe very strongly that it is wrong to reward someone for NOT contributing to the economy. Beyond that, I think we can all take some credit.

Did you cringe when you heard that Hilary would be the new Senator from New York?

You have successfully misspelled both her first and last names. I find that amusing. I know what she wants, and I know how she thinks she will get it. If she is as smart as I think she is, she will learn from Al's mistake - which is that you can't do whatever you want and get away with it forever. At some point, what goes around comes around. I don't live in New York, so I didn't cringe when she won the election. Let's see how she does in Washington.

Do you frequently receive GOP political propaganda though e-mail forwarding?

I never have and I never will. I hate that e-mail forwarding stuff. I would be willing to bet money that you asked that question because you receive a lot of Democrat spam. I hope you enjoy it.

Do you believe Nixon was framed?

Nixon was a criminal, IMHO. He got what he deserved. There is a parallel to the current situation. Nixon had an overpowering compulsion about being president, tried to cover up his crimes, and insisted until the end that he was not a crook. He ended up being a footnote on your quiz, just like Al Gore will be in 20 years.

Do you think Katherine "John Cleese in drag" Harris is a hero?

You spelled a Monty Python cast member's name correctly and misspelled Bill Clinton's name. You made me laugh. But I understand the purpose of your question; to denigrate a public figure. Yesterday, you threatened to sue me for ridiculing you, and today you denigrate someone you never met. Your attempt to be disingenuous fails, because you are not amusing me.

Do you believe that Dubya actually won Florida?

This question makes it appear that you do not.

Permit me, if I may, to educate your ass on this.

The Florida election is over. GWB won the election. More people voted for him than for Al Gore. I am not talking about electoral votes or the rest of the country. He won Florida. FACT.

Now, I know what you are thinking, and you want to shout it out...let every vote count. Well, you dildohead, every vote has been counted. What you are really saying is, "Let every ballot that didn't pass muster the first and second time be examined again in a part of the state of Florida where we know that our side will gain votes and maybe we can reverse this horrifying development."

"Every vote" means every vote in the whole state, not just three counties in the state. So don't blow that crap at me, it won't work.

OK, I'll address your candidate's PR arguments on that.

1. "Al Gore offered a deal to recount the whole state and Bush turned it down."

Al can't make that deal, and you know it. Al doesn't make deals with the citizens of Florida. That's what the Florida State Legislature is for. Additionally, the legal time limit had already passed for a candidate to request a recount when Al made his PR "offer." Your side watches the goofballs on TV try and explain this away, but I know the truth. Smoke and mirrors to cover up The Big Plan.

2. "Some voters are disenfranchised and their votes need to be counted or it's unfair/illegal/a civil rights violation."

Here's how it worked. The voters got the instructions in the mail. They were written out, and there were illustrations. You don't have to be able to read to vote in Florida. When the voters got to the polls, they read those same instructions again, and they saw the same illustrations on how to vote again. Then they voted.

They then took their ballot out of the little machine, inspected their ballot to insure the ballot was OK with them, and then walked across the room and placed their ballot in the ballot box. If they noticed that after they voted something was wrong with their ballot, or their ballot was somehow unacceptable to them, they did not deposit the ballot in the ballot box, but instead went to an election official and requested a new ballot.

Every voter had these same opportunities. If a voter did not get it right after all this, then his ballot is not a vote, it is waste paper because he failed to properly exercise his legal right to vote.

Which brings me to Broward County. I watched on television while a Democrat judge and his best girl actually created votes for Al Gore. I saw it with my own eyes. In my view, this is clearly fraudulent.

So, lawdog, what you are arguing to me is this:

I have a way to overturn this election. I want my side to have a chance to manufacture some votes that are not really votes but only failed ballots, and I want to manufacture these votes in a couple of selected areas where I know my guy will win, and I want an extension of time to do it, and I want the other guy that already won three times to sit back and shut up, and if this does not happen I will sue whoever I need to sue, including my own people, in order to win at any cost. While I am working on this, I intend for anyone that is with me to cause as much trouble as they can so nobody will see me doing what I'm doing. And by the way, say nothing about the military votes or taking any votes away from anyone, because that screws up my plan to manufacture more votes for myself.

It's worked in the past, but this time it was on national television. Al is going to screw up his chances to win in 2004, and that's just fine with me. The better he blows himself up, the happier I am, because I think he's gone nuts about this, and I don't want a nut to pull the trigger at the wrong time.

Now, lawdog, accept the truth and calm down. It's only four years. You'll live.
