Wow, that's the first phone to raise my pulse since Qualcomm released the Thinphone. I think I just found my next phone also since I was thinking of getting a PDA anyway but didn't like the idea of having so many devices to keep track of, charged, etc.

Notice how the flip-down keypad doesn't cover the entire screen. This allows the upper portion of the display to show the typical call information without needing to flip it open. So it works as a non-flip phone, I like that. Also notice the little cut-out for the microphone. This allows the phone to be used with the flip keypad open or closed. It also has vibrating alert and 8MB of memory. Nice. I don't recall hearing of any GSM Palm OS devices. Did I miss the announcements?

Kyocera Wireless Corp. Unveils the Kyocera Smartphone

I'll be getting in line for this one as well! I would have liked to see an MP3 player integrated into this PDQ2 though.

7.35 oz KYO phone is full featured but heavier than the 4 oz phones that have been available for some time.

Kyocera also has the 3000 series coming which has a speaker phone also. Does anyone know if the 6035 model is the new name for the 3000 series? I've sent Kyocera an email asking them.

This phone reminds me of a question that has been nagging me for some time. Qcom's IPR grants them a % of the ex-factory price of any device using CDMA. Does this apply to this phone - the whole thing? It has functionality beyond that of a phone.

Even if not for this phone, I expect there will soon be devices for which wireless communication will be a side-attribute. The royalties will then presumably apply only on part of the value of the device. Otherwise, I can imagine a device that owes, say 4% to Q for the communication, 2% for this application, 1% there... Adding up to more than 100%!

I don't see this as a down-side as much as a limit on the upside - accept as much as in the likelihood that it spawns more distracting lawsuits.

Steven, John, any other attorneys, care to comment?

The fact the 6035 uses html is compelling. If we see more html CDMA handset who needs wap. You can get free html Palm OS browsers that allow pictures, maps, graphics java script etc. Here is the killer content we are looking for....all internet content as it is intended to be viewed. How can Docomo cartoons and wap compete. I welcome HTML browsing to the CDMA world
