The truth is that Gore lost. Unfair as it may be, it just as easily could have gone in his favor, but it didn't.

I do think that he does himself and the democratic party harm by dragging this out longer. There is no way he will win at this point and he will start to lose supporters (independents who voted for Gore, especially) as time passes. It would have been smarter to accept the luck of the draw gracefully and start preparing for the next time.
