Lawdog, I agree. The arbitrary decisions of the Secty of State cheapened the votes of 50 million voters for Gore.

The majority of Americans voted against Bush or Gore.

They had the right to vote, they voted, if they didn't do it right... so be it. Do the best you can under the law, then fix it and move on. It is a shame.. and it is too bad that he wouldn't get to benefit from any changes to the law going forward, but hey... what can you do. It's not a perfect system. I am not about to go messing with the electoral college either. The U.S. has always been a republic, not a democracy.

I'll tellya what. If/when Gore loses or concedes, if he pursues this all the way through in Florida to get the laws changed for the next time around, I will be duely impressed and will recant my cynicism of his motives. I just don't think he is as interested in doing the will of the people as he is in being president. I would say the same thing about Bush. He just happens to have luck on his side, this time. The only issue I truly consider to be outstanding in Fl is Seminole county. But that is a thorny one. The ballots, I'm assuming, were approved, even if they were faulty (one could make the same argument about the butterfly ballot). However, if it really was out of the voters control, that is something to consider.

I really do not see how anyone here was denied their right to vote. If you want to be accurate, then say they may have been denied their right to have their vote counted. The plurality of Americans for Gore is irrelevant here, imo, though if he wants to contest the election on that basis I would say he has the right to.

I understand you have work to do, I do as well, but given the trouble I have taken to give detailed responses here I'm sure that you will understand that I would really like to know how you propose to do what you say under the law? If you avoid this question, I will simply dismiss you as a phoney and a shill.
