Of course Whistler helps Intel. That was my point in one of the posts in the MSFT thread: MSFT should release a new P4 optimized OS upgrade soon, maybe as an optional service pack.

My point in this thread is, that when you buy OEM PCs, you keep the OS that is installed until you dump the PC somewhere and get a new PC with the OS preinstalled.

That's why it is important to get the hardware that runs the preinstalled software best, and P4 doesn't do a good job here. In fact, P4 would only be the best choice in very rare situations on workstations in business, as long as it only runs 1.5GHz.

For Intel I really hope they can ramp up the speed quickly, and personally, I look very much forward to Itanium with Linux. I don't believe in Whistler before half a year after they have begun to ship it.
