Vitech America Launches 1400 MHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor With New Quest 7140 PC

Story Filed: Monday, November 27, 2000 1:08 PM EST

MIAMI, Nov 27, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Vitech America, Inc. (Nasdaq: VTCH) announced today that its Brazilian subsidiary, Microtec Sistemas S.A. launched the new Intel Pentium 4 family of processors, with a prototype of its Quest 7140 computer, operating at 1400 MHz. This state-of-the-art PC, which is scheduled to debut in Brazil in the first quarter of 2001, explores the full potential of the new RAMBus memory technology and built-in arithmetic processor of the Pentium 4.

"The arithmetic processes of the Pentium 4 allow the peak performance of the PC to be reached in half the time," states Paulo Alouche, Marketing Director of Microtec. "The greater processing and transmission speed, made possible by the RAMBus memory, allows virtual reality work to be performed with greater speed and detail," adds Alouche.

The Quest 7140 will be equipped with 128 Mb RAMBus memory, 20GB hard drive, 32 Mb AGP standard video, DVD, and will work at a speed of 1.4 GHz, the greatest ever allowed on a PC. All the new resources included in the Quest 7140, including its new video streaming technology, make it the perfect PC to use for Internet work, virtual reality construction (used for product and systems projects), and for intense work with graphics processing in multitask environments. The 3-D and multimedia equipment is able to perform complex voice command operations.

"This cutting-edge technology makes the Quest 7140 a product that can compete with the best and most up-to-date products worldwide," states Vicente Soares, CEO of Vitech's Brazil operations.

One vendor, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., said it increased fourth-quarter production of Rambus Inc. (stock: RMBS) chips 20 percent sequentially to meet demand. However, in a series of interviews, executives at Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd., Infineon Technologies AG (stock: IFX), and Micron Technology Inc. (stock: MU) reported little activity among PC customers at a time when OEM plans to ship Pentium 4-based desktop systems would appear to require increased Rambus production.

Hyundai and Micron each said they have largely stopped Direct RDRAM production and will not make more chips until customer orders materialize. Infineon, which said it manufactured several million Direct RDRAM chips a month this summer, said it is left with inventory and also has stopped making the chips.

This story is the biggest B.S....let me just inform you that this is a Jack Robertson story and that of the four companies asked for demand for RDRAM, 3 are currently in litigation with Rambus. I don't see NEC, for example interviewed. This story is the most blatant evidence yet of a concerted anti-RDRAM propoganda. It is almost a riot to read.
