LOR and TESAM control the Gateways that I believe could cover All of S. America, Central America, Most of Europe via The TESAM GW's in France, Ogülbey,Turkey, and LOR controlled (Moscow). A large portion of the Middle East via Turkey.. Of course the Eastern North Atlantic air routes via France.. The Air routes to Asia on the Bering Strait route would use the Kabarovsk GW in Eastern Russia, Yeoju, Korea, and TESAM has designs on Vietnam..tesam.com A Gateway there could serve much of SE Asia and Micronesia.. So the big problem is North America..i.e. Airtouch/VOD territory.. Now we know G* has Gateways in a box somewhere.. And we already have a a fully operational Gateway in San Diego.. Which gets you half way to Hawaii and to Texas, IF a Gateway is placed in Hawaii that gets you the rest of the way there and part of the way to Asia.. A Gateway placed on the US Territories i.e. Guam, Marshall Islands, and Tahitti (It's French) and you cover the Southern Pacific.. So now all you need is 3 maybe 4 more Gateways in North America that are void of VOD/ATI.. The North American GW's would be something like this... Ketchikan Alaska, (for Easter Bering Strait air traffic) San Diego CA (@Qualcomm), South Dakota, Miami , and Maine. (The Carribean is handeled by Venezuela, and Miami) A Gateway in Hawaii, and the Marshal Islands, and Guam and Vietnam.. TESAM has an extra GW from Colombia that was not installed... (However, there was a Senegal rumor for a while). Don't forget that Hawaii coverage is one of the few terms of L/Q's Regulatory Approval.. That's seven new Gateways and the TESAM Colombia gateway in Veitnam!! Now there is a fist full of Speculation for ya! But, if memory serves me... the IFN release stated that IFN would be building out the Gateways necessary to implement the system anyway!! Don't forget. With data.. You don't need PSTN connections for a GW.. All you need is Terminal Power.. and a Fixed Dish TX/RX to connect to Loral's Geostationary IP Network.. So the costs of an Internet Connection of an Airplane over Puerto Rico is the same from a Speculative Miami GW or the Los Velasquez , Venezuela GW. No Roaming to worry about, No Inter-operability test etc.. We are talking Data only for these GW's.. And since Data is much easier to implement than voice I would assume.. (rf_hombre?).. You could probably get away with only 2 tracking dishes.. Maybe that is one of the reasons VOD is not trying, or even refusing to sell/activate the terrestrial portion of G* handsets.. They know they are getting cut out of the data loop? The other thing to remember.. Is that I THINK that since an airplane is operating in the air.. That regulatory approval MAY NOT BE NECESSARY to operate above a given country..I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS!! So in theory... The Moscow Gateway could possibly service a jetlliner over Finland, or any country within it's reach!! PCSTEL
