There have been some real issues such as softening in PC demand and possibility of a price war, (although Ashol K. will go down as foolish, even nutty, for saying AMD was going to be "road kill" when INTC came out with P4.

Let's recount a bit: Ashok said AMD would be road kill as the P4 was ramped up late this year. Following that, Intel delayed the introduction and then announced that they would price the parts way high to pose much of a threat to AMD. Performance of the P4 has been shown to be great for rich gamers who have expertise and can spend lots of time optimizing their systems with board or software specific drivers. The P4 does little to justify it's cost for business applications except as a marketing tool for selling gigahertz to non-discerning buyers. The softness seen in the PC market has improved and now looks a bit firmer for next year. Much of the fear of softening demand should have lessened but the investment community is still in a frame of mind to worry about anything they can imagine.

Also, AMD delayed introduction of SMP gear that would help horn shoe them into the corporate market more effectively. The reasons for the delays made good sense - better suited product is on the way and current product is adequate in the meantime.

AMD is likely to be range bound for a while as nothing except sales and earnings results or a rebound in the semi sector is likely spur the stock higher. All said, this tired, boring stock will be up by early next year imo.
Maybe Ashok will go down as a "road kill" analyst, splattered by AMD as it turns in another quarter of increased sales and earnings.
