I am not advocating cutting out those who want to be partners. What I am advocating is being so dependent upon them. Intel makes their own chipsets and motherboards and every chipset maker and board maker in the world still supports Intel. The reason they do is because the Intel market is huge. They will do the same for AMD when the AMD market becomes huge.

The AMD market will not become huge if AMD waits around for VIA and others to put AMD's interests before their own. Don't forget that it is now in VIA's best interest that AMD falls flat on its face.

There are ways to attract and retain good infrastructure partners without having to assume unacceptable risks. Look at the support Intel has and think about how often Intel tries to screw or sue most of them.
