It has been my impression that American society has deviated further away from the traditional value of responsibility and has migrated toward a sense of entitlement. At least that is what the Clinton/Gore administration has taught me in the past eight years.

For the most part I tend to agree, but I would not paint it with so broad a brush.

It seems to me that the Clinton/Gore welfare reform (yes, the Republicans floated similar ideas for years, but Clinton and Gore's backing was essential to get it done) actually caused some degree of migration away from the personal entitlement religion that has gripped us the past generation or two. There are other examples too, but that is the one that jumps out at me.

Clinton/Gore's enduring lesson will be that personal responsibility, oaths under penalty of perjury, and general integrity don't matter as long as one is slick enough to spin the hell out of every situation. In other words, lie only if you are so good at it you'll get away with it.

I am having trouble packaging that set of moral values for my kids.....
