Or an Indonesian, their currency plunged even more. In term of their own currencies, gold was great, but guess what, the patriotic Koreans "donated" their gold. By the way, they would have done about better just buying US treasuries. They even would have collected some interest. Of course, they should have been in dollar before the crisis hit, and I believe some of these countries regulate ownership of foreign currencies.
