Biotech Sector Strong, But Be Selective, Editor Warns

Jim McCamant, founder and editor-at-large of Medical Technology Stock Letter, said he is still bullish on the sector, but says investors should be more selective next year.

He thinks investors should choose companies with products on the market or close to market.

As for downside risks for next year, McCamant points out that the sector has already come down a lot from highs this year, but there could be upward movement in the first half of 2001.

"There's a lot of medical conferences in the first half of the year - there's one the second week of January. That's why biotechs stay strong to end of January, and last year they stayed strong to the end of March."

Julius:

I agree with you re a possible move in gold: with the
US Dollar dropping below support, and a bear market here
(at least in Nasdaq) for the first time in many years,
gold and gold stocks are often a good place to put a little
money while riding out the bad times.
