how significant is the WLL agreement announced today as another revenue stream? I can recall some debate on one of the threads as to whether Qualcomm patents and royalties hold up in WLL versus mobile. Todays announcement seems to clear that up.

Noted on q website with a search for WLL:

When Kyocera extended their CDMA license it included 3G and WLL qualcomm.com

Brazilian consortium including Qualcomm wins regional operating license for Northern regions of Brazil qualcomm.com

Russian market with Leap Int 1999 qualcomm.com

Mexico Grupo Pegaso and Qualcomm consortium awarded licenses for mobile CDMA and WLL qualcomm.com

Of course there was the recent press release about Indian WLL which was corrected by Kent Rattey "" Since the WLL system is both cost effective and easily deployed, the Indian government hopes to establish two million lines of WLL service by 2001 with an additional three million lines by 2002, thus creating a telecommunications infrastructure in otherwise remote regions.

To meet the Indian government’s ambitious plan, HEI will supply more than 1.5 million lines of CDMA WLL equipment by 2002."

Perhaps management can shed more light on WLL prospects in upcoming conferences

WAP is analogous to HTTP not HTML.
WML is analogous to HTML

WAP is a protocol for sending and receiving packets to a WAP device.

HTTP is the protocol for sending and receiving packets to an Internet device ie a browser or server.
WAP gateways can translate HTTP to WAP and WAP to HTTP.

WML or HTML can be sent through a WAP gateway via HTTP then converted to WAP and sent to a WML/WAP browser. the WML/WAP browser can send a response through the gateway in WAP which is converted HTTP and sent to and HTTP server.

There are other competing standards such as DHTML but that is a competitor to WML not WAP

The standard browser protocol stack for Internet is
HTML over HTTP over TCP/IP

for wireless
WML over WAP over CDPD

CDPD = TCP/IP

Hope this helps
