Last evening at 6.00:PM I was at the pool watching my daughter in her swimming lesson and minding my little guy (18 months and a good icebreaker). I joined in a conversation with two other parents who were obviously pretty disgruntled with the Liberals. We three seemed to be pretty like minded. To set the scene one parent was a male white, the other Asian female and both pretty articulate, especially the woman and me a 'blend'. All the usual topics came up. The subject of scrapping the GST and and renegotiating free Trade came up. The fact that these key issues propelled the Liberals to power in the first term came up. It was agreed that the Liberals LIED. Then to my astonishment the woman said "But that's just politics". From this, and the election results I can only surmise that Jean Chretien (no matter how despicable I personally find him) is actually a political genius on the Canadian front. To his credit he understands completely that enough Canadian people don't care about honesty, integrity and fairness, in politics at any rate. They expect and even need their politicians to be liars. He obviously is attuned to whatever it is and I am not. Maybe its to ethereal for me understand. Maybe teevee is right (whether his posts are tongue in cheek or not I don't know). Further to this I submit the case of Alan Tonks former GTA politico versus John Nunziata 'Independent candidate' and former Liberal (with convictions, that's why he's former). The race was billed in the media as a race between the the Liberal machine and 'Loyalty , honesty.....' guess who won. regards sadly, Kastel
