"What is happening? How did a sector that was so hot just a few months ago become such a dud? The telecom industry is certainly expanding--annual U.S. telecom service revenues, now $270 billion, are growing about 10% a year..."

Jim- The article mentioned quite a few times how bad it's going to be. As their basis they claim the carriers are 'predicting' zero increase in capital spending. So what else is new? Carriers tend to say this when their stock price sags. For more details see:

IMHO the key is on the revenue side-- $270 billion and rising. Just a few years ago the figure was $100 billion long distance and $100 billion local. Well that's already been boosted by $70 billion because of the Internet. And I have yet to find any article, no matter how negative on the industry, that claims this figure will drop. And then one has to consider the USA takes in less than a third of the worldwide total revenue stream. The rest of the world wants/needs to get connected worse than the US.

All just IMVHO. -MikeM(From Florida)

Jim- While reviewing some of the stats I've posted upstream, I found this post that forecasts USA telecommunications service provider revenues.

...if the figures turn out to be accurate, there is nothing to worry about if you are a telecommunications investor. -MikeM(From Florida)
