Somewhat oddly, my wife tells me that according to some news story or other, Ms. Harris was in line for a plum job, but the controversy may have put her out of the running. Allegedly W wouldn't want to be too obvious about payoffs. Since ambassador jobs in pleasant locations that go to non career FS people are almost always payoffs anyway, that seems strange, but I guess the logic is they wouldn't want to put the esteemed Ms. Harris in the same class as your random big bucks donor or personal crony. Remember John Gavin?
