>>BUSH CONSIDERS DROPPING SUPREME COURT ACTION; 'OLIVE BRANCH' TO GORE

**Exclsuive**

George W. Bush is seriously considering removing his petition before the Supreme Court, a senior Bush source said late Monday.

"We need to begin the healing," the source told the DRUDGE REPORT from Austin, "and the governor would love for this to end -- and end now. He would be willing to drop the Supreme Court, and all other court action, if the vice president would now do the same."

The source cautions that Bush would still proceed full-steam ahead at the Supreme Court level if Gore continues to challenge Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris's certification.

Bush's separate constitutional challenge to recounts, which the Supreme Court declined to hear but which is still awaiting a hearing in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. On Monday, Bush asked the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for a delay in oral arguments in a constitutional challenge to recounts. Bush lawyers noted that with the certification deadline passed, there will be no recounts for now.<<
