Again I agree marcos,

Day was much more an issue than policy. Chretien understood that. Most anti alliance people (my entire family LOL) could not gainsay the party based on stated policy. It was mostly an issue of what about Day and religion, Day and racism, Day and gays, Day and abortion (no one in my family is a radical pro choicer but nor are we radical pro lifers, we are uncomfortable with the status quo).

As we know, in our system it's unfortunately the PM's opinion and not the party's that counts. What he says goes. Maybe most people just understand that inherent flaw too well, so Day was not an option.
