peter:

Pretty impressive list...Particularly like the idea that the thlon 900 price is moving up...Having seen much indication of price firming recently...

Funny you should mention the PIII 800 MHz...Full page ad on back of first section of my newspaper today featuring Dell's Dimension L800r...Piii 8000 Mhz, 64 MB SDRAM, 10 GB Ultra ATA HD, Intel 3D AGP Graphics, 48X CD-ROM, MS Windows Millenium edition and Works Suite 2001, 3 Year Limited Warranty, 1st Year NBD On-Site Service...Price reduced...No longer CDN $999 but CDN $799 until Dec. 1...Same system with celery 600 MHZ available for CDN $599.

Different conclusions will no doubt be drawn be different people...but no matter, it looks like INTC/DELL want/need to unload some P111 800 MHz systems...

Concerning Duron 800's disappearance, I'd guess they are in short supply...May also explain the INTC/DELL focus on the Piii 800 MHZ.

I think it's entertaining to see the Pentium 233 MMX on that list. The part must be out of production for 2 years at least, about all it would be good for is a minimal upgrade for some Intel mobos that would support it and nothing better. Anything that could support a 233 must have been at least a 166 to begin with.

The P233 MMX can be had on pricewatch for $34, which is modestly cheaper than the cheapest k6, a 475 part at $42 or a 500 at $43. The real low cost leader is the cyrix 300 MII, which can be had for $28. The geek's choice in this retro upgrade contest is a k6-III+ 450 for $55.

Cheers, Dan.
