I am making this point because I find that much of the difference of opinion on this issue is due to the environment in which one lives. Cityites do not understand the gun culture (and the self defense inclinations) of the rural areas... and people from rural areas do not get how scary it would be to walk around manhattan knowing everyone (including all the nuts) are armed. A simple misunderstanding or misinterperated gesture among two people from vastly different cultures could end up with one of them dead... This is exactly what I meant by "common sense". But it is not scientific and considering the seriousness of the problem of murder-homicide vs. self-defense is IMHO not sufficient to limit gun-rights.
