I actually think it's a good thing that this all happened. I've talked to a few people in local government about it, and they fall into two distinct categories;

- those who have chosen one side of this argument and are screaming the party line (both sides). These people appear for the most part to be really pissed off, and frankly, many of them seem a bit irrational to me personally, and appear to be doing things that they could regret in a couple of months.

- those who see this all as an historic occasion that is going about as well as could be expected. There are no tanks in the streets, no mobs, no guns, etc. These people appear to have a better overall grasp of the reality involved, and might have some positive contribution to make in the next few months.

I myself think that there is a very good possibility that many good things can happen in the next 4 years. Nobody has a clear-cut advantage, so everyone will be forced to cooperate with each other. Those on the fringe (right or left) will tend to be viewed as contributing nothing to the work that will need to be done, because they will refuse to accept any compromise.

Those that can meet in the middle will be forced to listen to the other side. A good example is the complaints that African-Americans have recently expressed publicly. I don't mean the radicals, I mean the regular people that are appearing on television. There are some very legitimate complaints that have been raised about inequality regarding the right to vote, and I think neither the media nor the many government leaders has taken them as seriously as they should.

Another good example is rule of law and how we all perceive it. There has been a tendency recently to take a light view of things that public figures have done that were clearly against the law. I think that will have to change. The new president will be forced to keep his nose clean, (joke opportunity passed up on purpose) and that's a good thing for everyone except criminals.

I want this whole fiasco to be over as soon as possible, because the new president will have to start leading everyone, and the sooner that happens, the better for everyone on the planet. I agree that things are going to be OK.
