Marq,

I would advise against putting that $50/month in a common stock mutual fund for such a short period as nine months. The first thing that might happen is that you pay taxes on the capital gains distribution. Even worse, the fund could tank. I think money that is being "parked" until there are sufficient funds to invest in a stock should be placed in a money market mutual fund.

I think it's a terrific idea, Marq. I spent the first 5 years of my investment career putting my money into an s&p500 index fund, which was a great investment. That fund became the source of funds for my entry into stock picking.

Merlin and I are like the Odd Couple <gg>.
