"but decided to produce more Durons with ASPs of $60? "

Remember, Durons are produced in Austin only. It is doubtful that Austin can produce much in the more than 1GHz range, although there are some indications that they might be able to produce some. Most of the increase is Durons is at the expense of K6s not Athlons.

<< I think a crucial time for them will be 2H next year if Intel should be able to start to fill the gap between their PIIIs and the PIV by then. I still do not understand why they did not decide to go for this gap between 1GHz and 1.4GHz but decided to produce more Durons with ASPs of $60 ? >>

Well they're increasing production greatly in that gap, durons are replacing k6s to an extent, so they're also (hopefully) raising the asp of the lower end somewhat. I don't know how many chips they could sell in that gap even if they could produce an unlimited amount. (I'm not saying they are making the perfect amount, but demand is probably an issue)
