I have never seen one, (simply some hearsay), which is not to say they don't exist. While neither SBC or BellSouth have outright committed to the EDGE migration (watching AWS instead and letting AWS take the lead on this), there are some quotes or attributions to the contrary (and while not handy, if I stumble across them I'll post back, and would appreciate your reciprocating). In the interim here is a link provided by Ben quoting a pretty savvy journalist:Message 14796088 BTW: I saw a GSMA source recently about BellSouth International considering a transition to CDMA for one of their LA properties and will reference it when I stumble across it. The article was pretty objective considering the source and discussed other past and pending BSI actions in LA, all positive to CDMA. BellSouth International has in the past made some decisions independently of BellSouth Mobility/DCS. What Cingular does may not necessarily influence BellSouth International and vice versa, I think it is premature to rule EDGE (TDMA or GSM) out, Andrew Seybold or no Andrew Seybold. It may go away and good riddance, but still premature, IMO. Cingular is certainly a flip em if EDGE goes away. Meantime, the AWS/DoCoMo deal does not rule out DoCoMo investing in Cingular (to complicate matters further for Cingular). And to complicate matters for AWS, and Cingular, WCDMA (as specified today) as a 3G migration path is going to demand these turkeys get more expensive spectrum because ain't no way Wideband CDMA is going to work for them in the patchwork of spectrum they have licensed. - Eric -
