Actually, the opposite has occurred also. For the first time in a long time, union activism swung the vote in two states: Michigan and Pennsylvania. African-Americans also voted in large numbers, partly because of Bush's refusal to take a stand on racism in this country. For every Republican voter that Limbaugh and Hannity pull out of the closet with their inflamed speech, there's another that votes Democratic because he or she is disgusted by the constant bashing of decent people by the likes of Hannity and Limbaugh. Conservatives will not be able to sustain this level of energy if Bush does ascend to the White House.

You are quite right, this will energize the base, and, as in the support for Bush, unite conservatives of various stripes, and Republicans generally, so that differences do not harm the goal........

One of the teachers at my son's school had a vote taken in class today. She handed out ballots to everyone. It asked "Who do you want to vote for for President of the United States". There were two choices.

If a student voted "Bush" there was a question under the place to mark off that stated "Are you SURE you don't want to vote for Gore?"

If a student voted "Gore" there was a question under that place to mark off that asked "Want to vote again?"
