That is why the Bush folks do not want a state-wide recount.> No, I added the county voting type to my spreadsheet. Statewide, Bush has 1,635,385 votes in the undervoting "punchcard counties." Gore has 1,842,889 votes in the "punchcard counties." But, by virtue of the fact that Broward county was already recounted, the number of "punchcard votes" still remaining to be recounted for BUSH is 1,458,106 and for Gore is 1,456,371. Combine that with 1. Bush has 200,000 more optical scan votes than Gore which should yield him a few extra votes AND 2. Bush picked up more than his proportional share of the undercount in Democratic Broward county, even though election board personnel were claiming things like braces behind the GORE chad blocking the stylus pen. and you have to come to the conclusion that recounting for Gore is hopeless Petz

That is why the Bush folks do not want a state-wide recount" Gore already gained...but not enough. You have to know the population of the counties to get a true idea... Dade, Broward and Palm Beach together are over 25% of the voting population. The other large counties I see that use punch cards are Hillsbourgh(Tampa), Pinellas(St. Pete)and Duval(Jacksonville). Hillsbourgh and Duval were Bush, Pinellas slightly Gore but not 2:1 like Broward and Palm Beach. Gore couldn't get ahead in Broward and Palm Beach. So now they want to recount Dade. Dade said no...but if they did it would be a crap shoot if he could pull enough votes to get ahead. A bigger reach is that he could stay ahead in a statewide recount. I think Bush would easily beat Gore in that case...looking at the map... Gore just wants to lengthen the game because without more time he has no chance. With a total recount...he has little chance and he gets to trash the markets further and get back at the fat cats...<G> Jim
