"There is an explanation for this tone, and for the constant claims that Gore is trying to "steal" the election, when all he asks for is a full and accurate count which he may well lose. It is that, fundamentally, Republicans don't believe that a Democrat like Gore belongs in power - no matter how many votes he gets."
That should be a shocking statement to make about a democracy, yet it is an accurate description of a wide vein in Republican thinking."

Couldn't have siad it better myself

<<The invincibly ignorant. >>

Is that what you call him now? I thought it was The Head Goron. I can understand why you would change his title after reading this:

Nadler Missed 'Whiff of Fascism' in
New Hampshire

Manhattan congressman Jerrold Nadler
garnered big headlines over the weekend,
when he announced that he smelled a "whiff
of fascism in the air" after Republican
protesters got angry at election recounters
in Miami-Dade County who tried to conduct
their recount in secret.

We want to congratulate Nadler on the return
of his olfactory senses, which didn't seem
to be working nearly as well earlier this
year in New Hampshire.

Nadler had traveled to the state to campaign
on behalf of Bill Bradley, then in the midst
of a serious primary challenge to Vice
President Al Gore. He was accompanied by
retiring senator Bob Kerrey, a bona fide war
hero who lost a leg in Vietnam.

As the two stood in the snow, making the
case for Bradley within earshot of a rally
for the vice president, pro-Gore
demonstrators surrounded them.

"Go home, fatso," one of the Gore
brownshirts yelled at the rotund
congressman.

"Get outta here, you cripple," another
heckler taunted Kerrey, after kicking mud on
the senator.

Though Gore pit bull Chris Lehane was
spotted just feet away as the ugly moment
transpired, two days later the vice
president protested he hadn't heard a word
about it.

Reporters on the scene said the husband of
Gov. Jean Shaheen, who headed up Gore
efforts in New Hampshire, was in the middle
of the crowd that attacked Nadler and
Kerrey.

Somehow Congressman Nadler missed "the whiff
of fascism" that animated Gore supporters
that day. Needless to say, the vice
president never apologized for the actions
of his supporters.
