King repeats here in his defense of CPQ today:

biz.yahoo.com

in this he says his checks do not show evidence of CPQ
channel stuffing, that he was surprised at Gardner's Euro reason
for a possible shortfall saying that CPQ already publicly
disclosed that it had hedged the Euro to quantify their exposure
in Q4 to the Euro, and that consumer demand would have to fall
off a cliff to cause CPQ to miss their Q4 estimate.

Banc of America Securities analyst Kurt King said he expected
Compaq results for the quarter ending in December to beat
pessimists' forecasts.

``In the near term the market will probably treat both stocks (Dell
and Compaq) more or less equally. However, in the longer term,
stock performance will be driven by how results come out relative
to expectations, and this is where I think Compaq has a
significant advantage,'' he said.
