How about Ted Kennedy. That would get him a chapter in Profiles in Courage. Rumor has it that he hates Gore from the Senate days. Remember, gore as a 39 year old first term senator, did what Jack Kennedy never dared to do, run for president at that age.
All joking aside it would take only one respected party elder to get the ball rolling. Goldwater had that chat with nixon before he resigned if you remember. Names that come to mind are Jimmy Carter, George Mitchell, Daniel Moynihan, Joe Lieberman. But none so far have shown the inclination. Wouldnt it be cool if Lieberman conceded to "Big Time".
