<< don't believe the schools are responsible for the behavior of children today.>>

Patricia when did the change happen ? What fork in the road made the dramatic change ? We had problems in the 50's and 60's but nothing like what is going on today. As a kid I could leave home for 8 hrs and nobody was worried. No child molesters no drugs no gangs. What has changed ? The civil right's movement was won and yet blacks are killing each other left and right. Didn't happen back then. Women have far more pay equity but don't seem happy. What is the missing element ? I believe it is philosophy. Man is by nature an inquisitive creature. If you tell a child that there are mysteries and heavens beyond then his imagination will soar and in the process that child will grow to be a wholesome individual. If on the other hand you tell a child there is nothing than the savage emerges. An animal eats sleeps fights and mates. The distinguishing element of a human is to inquire beyond those concepts. I believe that we have shut this off from today's children and the results are what we see being played out before us.

I believe that you are correct. The problem sits well with the parents. I think you limited your description of problem children. The disruptive ones, the spoiled ones. They all have something in common. The lack of respect for authority.

Teaches have to deal will hell in a classroom and very little authority to remove the problem. I believe if the ACLU would give some breathing room the teachers might have a better chance to bring a balanced atmosphere to the classroom.

I don't mean corporal punishment either. I simply mean that they should be "boss" in the classroom. They need the room to express their authority and wisdom. If the children don't respect them, they will never learn. If they have inadequate structure at home, they need it in the school. The teachers need to take the schools back!
