Zoran's Vaddis Key Component Performs All Playback Functions in Toshiba's First DVD Video Recorder
Vaddis ICs Also Shipping in Multiple New Toshiba DVD Products Including Standalone, A/V Receiver Combo and Portable Models

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 2000-- Zoran Corporation (Nasdaq:ZRAN - news), a leading provider of digital solutions-on-a-chip for applications in the growing multimedia and Internet consumer markets, today announced that the Vaddis IVplus DVD Decoder IC is decoding video and audio in Toshiba's new RD-2000 DVD video recorder.

Zoran's Vaddis decodes DVD-RAM, DVD-Video and streams stored on the integrated hard disk drive (HDD) of the RD-2000. Zoran's Vaddis DVD decoders are used in millions of Toshiba DVD products that cover the full range of product offerings including the new DVD Audio/Video Player, SD9200, and the recently introduced ``Go-Anywhere'' portable DVD player, SDP1000.

Zoran has leveraged its multimedia and compression expertise gained as a top supplier in the DVD player market to deliver a full range of advanced solutions for video recording and Personal Video Recording (PVR) applications, some of which will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, 2001. The Vaddis decoder is a key component of DVD players providing full-featured video and audio playback with robust error handling and diverse trick-play features, including full reverse playback and ZoranZoom. These sophisticated trick-play capabilities are implemented in the decoder for DVD, video recording and PVR systems. Vaddis also supports frame-accurate playback for nonlinear video editing applications with thumbnail image indexing support. With integrated programmable video and audio processors, Vaddis family decoders have the flexibility to support the latest playback and recording standards. Ultimately, the decoder delivers the high picture quality and features for the viewer as demonstrated in the innovative RD-2000 Toshiba system.

``Toshiba continues to be a valued customer of Zoran choosing the Vaddis DVD Decoder for new DVD product lines. The decoder is the critical component in any video recording device, as it must accurately play back the many types of video and audio streams while also supporting trick modes. The Vaddis has been designed to handle the complexities of existing standards and offer the flexibility to support new standards,'' said Ram Ofir, director of Marketing at Zoran Corporation. ``By incorporating programmable audio and video processors in our Vaddis DVD decoder ICs, we are able to support the latest DVD Video Recording standard for DVD-RAM applications. As we announced earlier this year, Zoran's product roadmap includes development of the necessary hardware to support video recording functionality in standalone PVRs, Set Top Boxes and Interactive TVs.''

``Our long and productive alliance with Zoran continues to yield innovative and competitive solutions for our customers,'' said Akira Kashiwagi, CEO, Fujifilm Microdevices Co., Ltd. ``We are pleased to support market innovators like Toshiba as they integrate Vaddis products into new consumer devices that extend the capabilities of the DVD platform.''
