If people in western Canada were to form a separate nation they would benefit from a vast migration of people leaving the eastern provinces. These people would be those who are both productive and mobile: The parasites will remain on their eastern host.

You might actually find that those east of the Red might have interest in such a future as well. There is great dissatisfaction with the status quo anywhere from Sault Ste. Marie west, and possibly somewhat further east as well.
