Avici has been in all these lab tests and field trials, but now it needs to get 'The Big Contract' (not unlike The Big Salad) from at least one of their customers.

The problem is, with broadband carriers feeling an earnings squeeze, maybe they can afford to put off buying a slew of terabit routers for a quarter or two. AT&T for sure won't write any big POs until '01.
