Popular vote means the country agrees with Gore on the issues. If Bush tries to raid the treasury and divert the surplus to the military-industrial complex, the Democrats will be free to oppose him because he has no mandate. If he tries to reneg on prescription drug benefit, they will hold his feet to the fire. If he is not vigilant on environmental protection, he will be exposed. His huge tax break for the rich will be vigorously opposed.

Doesn't matter as to who warms the chair. Matters a lot as to the legitimacy with which 51% view him.

Ask yourself the same question if Gore wins the recount.

Ironically, the even tempered judges of Fla. supreme court may have hurt Gore more with the short time limit than did the partisan Secretary who should have recused herself.
