Ah now Paul, Sanders has stated publicly that Austin yields are better than 60% (though it sounds like it may be 60.1%) and that Dresden yields are better than Austin yields.

AMD's die per wafer was about 30% larger than Intel's prior to the P4, yet it takes 5 Intel FABS to supply 83% of the market (the equivalent in die size of 7 FABs), while less than 1 AMD FAB (1/2 of Austin and 1/4 of Dresden) supplies 17% of the market.

The big question, of course, is what percentage of those 7 (equivalent) Intel FABs are used for CPUs. If they are 50% CPUs, then Intel yields are about the same as AMD, if they are less than 50% CPUs, then Intel yields are better than AMD's, if they are more than 50% CPUs, then Intel yields are worse than AMD's.

We really don't know how bad (or good) Intel's yields are, we do know they are afraid to talk about them.
