KG This GTW warning looks very specific to PC box makers. There is on suggestion for instance that Palm is going to miss is there? or Handspring?

There is no suggestion that MSFT is going to miss is there and INTC has given quite good guidance about next year only very recently.

That there is a big slowdown going on isn't exactly news. The last qtr warnings took account of the expectations for next year to a great extent. There are bound to besurprises but this looks to me like knee jerk reaction to a well known name that is going to miss but it doesn't by any means indicate that every tech business is going to miss.

There may well be a carry over reaction tomorrow morning but box makers are a commodity business and everyone has known all year that sooner or later consumers are not going to upgrade so frequently as we did when each new speed increase gove you so much better performance. Thats simplly not true today. I don't need an 800Mhz notebook.

I do need an 800Mhz PDA or combination wireless phone, camera and PDA and that is where the market is today.

Anyway haven't we all been saying all day that there is a slowdown. Thats not news to this thread and I suspect the market.

Maybe TV sales will be slow too. We could list here all the stocks which are likely to miss and we'd certainly get a few but many of those would have guided lower at Q3 so the shock effect with a bit of luck won't be as wide-spread as some fear.

Best regards,

L
