haq, They didn't die for the flag. They died for their country. I find nothing wrong with waving the flag especially at a Fourth of July parade but I usually don't do it when typing at my computer. I do find it offensive when people demogogue the issue of patriotism as the Bush campaingn did on the issue of the military ballots.
