Tony-- I'd certainly like to be optimistic. But, there was also ALTR-- though admittedly programmable logic is not quite adjacent to pcs. More importantly, the earnings season is still a month away, which leaves plenty of time for additional mischief. Maybe it is just confined to consumer desktops. As a certain class of people like to say, "We don't see a near-term catalyst."

Tony,

Gateway is far too much retail PCs and essentially nowhere into web or any other kind of servers.

When you (and I believe John Fowler) comment on Gateway as being primarily retail, do you mean just their retail stores or retail + direct, or are you saying retail = consumer PCs?

It seems to me from various reports that Q4 will be weaker than expected across the board, with only possible exception being the server market, since I don't recall any info of a slowdown in server area. But my WAG is that the servers are more evenly spread across the year vs. consumer market being heavily Q4 weighted
