This is the Christmas of the handheld. IMHO The late adopters to the PC world that I know are buying handhelds and net.phones in spades. People want their .net everywhere. Watch the ads on TV pushing handhelds aren't there two or three that run regularly. This is the new battleground at least temporarily. I like the looks of the 3Com "Audrey," if 3Com has this pegged as right as they were on the demand for modems then handhelds maybe they will start the stampede to appliances. Meet Audrey<g>

Does this thing run the Palm OS? Make this damn thing wireless and you have a winner. Have the base station connected to a cable modem then give everyone in the house one. Can you say, WIRED?

We all knew the PC was dead so what's new. Anyone that heard GTW's last quarter results had to expect this as there was all kinds of hanging chad.

Qwik,

Another quote from Galbraith which is right on the money, and very appropriate given that many on this thread are dumbfounded as to why SUNW is going down when it's other companies that are having the problems.

"The great investment trust boom had ended in a unique manisfestation of Gresham's Law in which the bad stocks
were driving out the good."

QS, to borrow a moniker I just saw here, Gateway is a dirtball company. They are good at blaming other companies for missing their numbers, and at saying their problems are the entire industry's problems.

Speaking of Compaq, they break even or make a little on PCs, and do most of their cleaning up in servers, storage, and hand-helds. They'll be fine. Sun's last briefing with the press was a bit meek for them, wasn't it (US not that good). Maybe the word about those cache ECC-less servers is getting out.

For "these PC companies" I assume you mean "those PC companies?"

This is the "non-PC forum," in case anybody forgot.

JMHO.
